18:00 - A CONSTITUTION FOR EU?: I have just explained my views on the proposed constitution for the European Union, on the Swedish radio show, Godmorgon världen. I think a constitution is a great idea, because we need something like the American or German constitution to limit the powers of the EU, and introduce a division of powers. But this proposal doesn’t do that. The EU is not being relieved of a single task. Instead the proposal erects new offices and sends us more officers. The bill of rights is a mixture of classical human rights (freedom) and welfare rights (subsidies and privileges). If the bill of rights is anything more than clichés it will undermine true human rights, if not, then what is the point? Read the draft and weep.
