11:31 - ATLAS SHRUGGED IS A GREAT MOVIE:

I have just seen Atlas Shrugged part I. There are many things that can be said, but first things first: itīs better than you think and I loved it.

So many things are left out, but in most instances those choices are well balanced, and the movie proves Ayn Randīs talent as a story teller and dramaturg. There is energy and drama throughout. I think it was sad that they did not esthetically turn it into a nostalgia about the future-style, combining the 1950s and the Gotham City world of tomorrow, which I think would have worked very well with trains, skyscrapers and the larger than life story. Instead it looks and feels like 2011 (even though itīs supposed to be 2016). It makes it more realistic (and the parallells with todayīs world events are really troubling), but less fascinating. Itīs a feast for the mind, not for the eyes.

At times the acting is a bit too formal and rigid, as if actors are reading lines that they barely understand, but Taylor Schilling (Dagny) and especially Grant Bowler (Hank) are very good.

It could be that I am in love with the story and the characters - but in that case it is also easy to be seriously disappointed. It could be that I had low expectations - it is done hastily on a tiny budget and some of the reviews have been awful. But I really had a great time at the cinema, it was powerful and it was moving. It was wonderful to see these characters come to life, and I am really looking forward to seeing part 2 and 3. I canīt tell if you would understand it if you had not read the novel first, though.

Congratulations to investor/producer John Aglialoro for pulling this off. Itīs about time someone showed it in Sweden.
